What to put on the sponsorship form (required checkboxes)

Add a required Terms/Consent (or Checkbox) field right above “Pay with Card”. Use one of these:

If you want to start immediately (recommended):

I request immediate start of my 1-year sponsorship (logo/link display begins now) and acknowledge that if I withdraw within 14 days I will pay a proportionate amount for the service already provided; after 14 days the fee is non-refundable for the current term. I agree to the [Sponsorship Terms & Refunds].

This mirrors the Consumer Rights Directive rule for services: consumers can withdraw within 14 days, but if they asked performance to start, they pay pro-rata for the part already delivered. You must also confirm the contract on a durable medium (your receipt email), which should include the consent text.

Optional extra box if you serve businesses:

I am purchasing as a business (B2B). I understand the consumer withdrawal rules do not apply.

(That’s not legally required; it just helps document status. “Consumer” vs “trader/business” is defined in the Directive.)

Where the 30-day guarantee fits

You can add a “30-day money-back guarantee” as a commercial guarantee on top of statutory rights. Just make it crystal-clear that it’s in addition to the 14-day consumer withdrawal right and explain the mechanics (full vs pro-rata; setup fee; removal of logo/link/PDF on refund). The Directive explicitly recognises commercial guarantees offered by traders beyond legal rights.

My suggestion: make it pro-rata for sponsors (since the benefit is time-based exposure), and disclose any fixed setup cost you’ll deduct.

Why we separate downloads vs sponsorships

Digital download (the font): you can remove the 14-day right if the buyer expressly consents to immediate access and acknowledges they’ll lose the withdrawal right; confirm that in the receipt (durable medium). That’s why you needed the “digital downloads are final” box we wrote earlier.

Sponsorship (service over time): the 14-day right generally applies to consumers, but if they asked you to start right away, they owe pro-rata for time used.

Fluent Forms: how to implement

Add a Terms/Consent field (or a single required Checkbox) with the exact text above.

Include the consent text in the receipt email (the “durable medium”) along with timestamp/IP/UA, and store it in the entry. This covers the Article 8(7) confirmation requirement.
legislation.gov.uk

If you offer the 30-day guarantee, link to it from the checkbox (“I agree to the [Sponsorship Terms & Refunds]”) and state the pro-rata/any setup fee plainly on the page.

If you want, I can tailor the exact checkbox/terms to your Fluent Forms field names and drop in a ready-to-send receipt email that includes the consent text and pro-rata language.

(Not legal advice; practical setup aligned with EU Consumer Rights Directive and Portugal’s transposition (DL 24/2014).)
