Heading to the mountains

After the flood of 1803, the Lady of Monte became the patron saint of Madeira. Back in 1818, the church was inaugurated in her honor.
August 15th is when the day of Lady of Monte is celebrated and is the most important and most attended feast in Madeira Island.

Revealing one of the biggest attractions of Monte
The journey will continue at the Tropical Garden, commonly known by locals as Monte Palace Madeira, and is one of the biggest attractions because of its immense and fascinating garden. There will be a stop at 1h30 to enjoy the space, to take photos and maybe enjoy a bite to eat and a nice coffee at ‘Greenhouse Coffee Roaster’.
This site has over 70.000 square meters and gives home to a major variety of exotic plants coming from all over the globe.

Get acquainted with Monte Palace’s museum
Inside the park, there is also the possibility to be acquainted with their museum, The Monte Palace Madeira Museum. A space that has three floors, two dedicated to sculptures amongst others, and the third is where you will find a compilation of unique minerals.
All the art presented at the museum, are pieces that have been being collected from all over the world throughout the years.
An exposition with the theme ‘African Passion’ is also available to everyone who’s interested in getting to know a little bit more about this age. This collection was dated back to the 60s and consists of 100 pieces.
Closing the journey at the famous toboggans

Lastly, the tour will come to an end at the Monte Toboggan, one of the most famous charms on the island. This attraction dates back to the 1850s.
